Dusan Spasojevic visits Turkey



The delegation of the Ministry of Defense led by State Secreatry Dusan Spasojevic is paying an official visit to the Ministry of Defense of Turkey.

At the meeting with State Secretary LTG Ahmet Turmus, both officials discussed the modalities of promoting cooperation in the areas of defense. Both sides agreed that there was room for promoting this cooperation in military education, specialization and military economy. Also a recent meeting at the ministers’ level was agreed on, which is the best sign of both ministries’ intention to establish better relations.

They also talked about the significance of closer cooperation within regional initiatives, for the purpose of strengthening and maintaining regional security, where Serbia and Turkey give special contribution.

- We both came to the same conclusion that a comprehensive cooperation enables achieving shared interests in solving numerous problems oppressing our region, stated Spasojevic to TANJUG news agency.

Spasojevic pointed out that the situation in Kosovo represented the biggest security and posed a security risk and threat to the stability in the region, while also airing Serbia’s official stance regarding this problem.

The process of EU integrations of the countries of the Western Balkans was the best way to reach a permanent solution to establish peace and stability and in that respect the Turkish side declared its full support to Serbia and its commitment to obtain EU membership.

Spasojevic also met with LTG Nusret Taslder, the Head of the Main Planning Department of the Turkish Armed Forces. They estimated that military-military relations were on the rise and both sides expressed a shared interest to continue cooperation in that direction.

State Secretary Spasojevic laid a commemorative wreath on the memorial stone of Kemal Pasha Ataturk, in the memorial complex erected in honor of the founder of modern Turkish state.

While visiting the PfP Programme Center, Spaosjevic was acquainted with basic activities Turkey was engaged within PfP. Both sides exchanged experiences regarding the use of all possibilities PfP provides, which is of great significance given the fact that Serbia become fully included since last year.
