Visit of Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubiša Diković to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), where the largest contingent of the Serbian peacekeepers has been deployed, has started with the welcoming ceremony in UNIFIL's Sector East Headquarters, today.

General Diković discussed with the Sector East Commander Brigadier General Fransesco Javier Romero Mari the current political and security situation in that sector, as well as the engagement of members of the Serbian Armed Forces in UNIFIL. At the meeting at the East Sector Headquarters, the staff officers of the Sector HQ briefed the Chief of General Staff on the tasks performed by the units in this sector.

The Chief of the General Staff, with the delegation, then visited the position of the UN at which the members of the Serbian Armed Forces carry out their tasks, where our infantry company leader Mladen Gligorijević briefed him about the engagement of the company and pointed out that the company members were healthy, trained, equipped and motivated to execute their tasks in the area of operations.

General Diković also visited the area of operations of the Spanish battalion, within which our infantry company is engaged, and gained a direct insight into the specificity of the execution of tasks in this mission. In a conversation with Serbian peacekeepers in Lebanon, General Diković expressed his satisfaction with the previous work of the commanding officers and soldiers of the Serbian Armed Forces in that operation, stressing that they, performing their tasks alongside their counterparts from other armies, represent the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Armed Forces in the best possible way.

The delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces, led by the Chief of General Staff, will continue their visit to UNIFIL mission tomorrow, where, after a welcoming ceremony at the Mission HQ in Nakuru, he will meet with Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Michael Beary. During his stay in Lebanon, General Diković will also visit the West Sector Headquarters where he will talk to the Sector Commander, Brigadier General Rodolfo Sganga and visit the UN position on which members of our force protection platoon perform their tasks within the Italian Contingent.

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been engaged in the United Nations Mission in Lebanon since 2010, and currently 177 officers and soldiers of our army are carrying out tasks in that mission.
