Ministers Vulin and Shoigu: Serbia and Russia carefully build and maintain special relationship

After today's ceremony at the Nikola Tesla Airport, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, and the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, met at the Small Hall of the Old General Staff building.

Minister Vulin welcomed the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation to the celebration of the Belgrade Liberation Day and highlighted the closeness of the two countries because they have always been on the same side.

- In the most difficult moments of our history and that of yours, we were on the same side. That is what is remembered, that is what defines the future. Therefore, we do not have the right to be less courageous than our ancestors. You know that Serbia is a militarily neutral country, but to be military neutral and autonomous, it must be militarily strong. Therefore, your assistance is immensely important to us. The agreement reached by President Putin and President Vučić is also important, and thanks to it we can say that today we have the ability to defend our sky. I would also like to thank you personally, because I know how much effort and endeavours were needed to do all this, Minister Vulin said.

Minister Sergei Shoigu thanked Minister Vulin on the invitation to spend this day together.

- 73 years ago, our fathers and grandfathers were liberating Belgrade shoulder to shoulder. This is especially important nowadays when many are trying to overwrite history and when in some countries monuments are raised to those who fought against us and were on the side of fascism. We cannot accept that, Minister Shoigu said and reminded Minister Vulin that he had promised him in Moscow that the planes would be in Belgrade by today's holiday.

- As you can see, they are here. I hope that the planes will be a safe shield and guarantor of Serbia's security and independence, the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation said.
