Sutanovac and Chacon sign a Memorandum on Cooperation



Ministers of Defense of Spain and Serbia Care Chacon and Dragan Sutanovac respectively signed the Bilateral Military Cooperation Memorandum, which envisions the establishing of general principles and guidelines and procedures for cooperation in defense which would benefit both sides.

The memorandum envisions the return visit at the ministerial level to our country as well as return visits of other important persons from civil and military sector, joint consultations and exchange of information and experiences, establishing programs for training and education along with joint participation in exercises, conferences and seminars and participation on joint projects of mutual interest.

During the meting of Ministers Sutanovac and Chacon, both sides pointed out excellent cooperation and relation between Serbia and Spain. They discussed the improvement of relations of both countries, bilateral military cooperation, and security situation in the region agreeing that the military academies of both countries should exchange officers.

The pres release of the Spanish Ministry of Defense issued on that occasion reads that Carme Chacon took this opportunity to give full support to her Serbian colleague on Serbia’s path to integrations into EU and NATO.

The signing of the Cooperation Memorandum was attended by President of Serbia Boris Tadic and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero after which Minister Tadic stated that this Memorandum “opes a new page in the cooperation of the tow countries in security”.

“Serbia has established cooperation with many NATO member states, and we wish to foster such cooperation with Spain, too. This can be in training, modernization, new organization of our Ministry of Defense, using experiences in peace missions”, said the President of Serbia.

“In one period our country used to a very important participant of peace missions. I hope that the time will come when we will able to establish peace together once again”, added Tadic.

At the same time, he thanked the Spanish government for sending its troops on KiM to “guard our compatriot who rank today as the most endangered ethnic group in Europe”.
