International Exercise Platinum Wolf 17 kicks off



Platinum Wolf 17, an international military exercise, which is to be conducted in the period from 12th to 23rd June began with Opening Ceremony at the South Base today.


The exercise will involve about 450 officers, NCOs and soldiers of the armed forces of the United States, the United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Serbia.

The exercise was opened by Colonel Slobodan Stopa, Commander of the Fourth Army Brigade, who is also the exercise planning officer.

Colonel Stopa welcomed all participants exercise and wished them pleasant stay in the South Base and on the Borovac training ground and to successfully perform the exercise in the next two weeks.

- As hosts, we will try to present to you the Serbian Armed Forces and the Republic of Serbia, through visits to important historical monuments and the Memorial Room of the Fourth Army Brigade - Colonel Stopa said telling them that this exercise is performed in a multinational environment, which is an excellent opportunity to gain and share new experiences of the members of the armed forces of the partner countries.


The exercise, which is to be run according to topics "Tactics, techniques and procedures in multinational operations - non-lethal weapons" and tactical exercise "Peacekeeping operations", members of the armis of the participating countries will practice the use of non-lethal weapons, procedures when engaging in multinational operations and actions and procedures in the international environment.

The exercise is aimed at improving interoperability and mutual understanding among partner armed forces at tactical level in operations for supporting peace in a multinational environment.

Defence Minister Zoran Đorđević and the US Ambassador to Belgrade Kyle Scott welcomed 80 members of the Ohio National Guard, at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, yesterday, and this is the largest contingent of foreign armed forces to take part in the exercise.

On that occasion, Đorđević said that the "Platinum Wolf 17" is very important military exercise for Serbia because it will contribute to strengthening the operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The Opening Ceremony of the "Platinum Wolf 17" exercise was attended by Colonel Goran Stamenković from the Army Command, Director of the exercise Colonel Slađan Stamenković, Commander of the Peacekeeping Operations and Pre-Deployment Training Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Branislav Stevanović and commanders of units from Bujanovac.
