World Civil Protection Day marked



On occasion of 1 March, World Civil Protection Day, practical exercises were held in more than 20 towns across Serbia.

The demo exercise “ada 2009” held in Belgrade was organized by the Emergency Situations Department and the Emergency Situations Section of the City of Belgrade. The exercise included general training, first aid, fire protection, rescue from vertical surroundings and procedures when unexploded ordnance is found.

83 attendants participated from 22 groups of youths who underwent the training program, while the members of the Firefighting Association and of the Mountain Rescue Service of Serbia as well as of Big Blue scuba diving club took part in this manifestation.

In the organization of Novi Sad emergency situations section, an exercise titled “1 March 2009” with 120 soldiers doing civil service as part of their military duty was held.

In ten segments, the following activities were demonstrated: fire protection elements along with first aid, rescuing the injure from heights, and deployment on constructing levies.

Some 3800 youths divided into 111 groups with 860 of these youths participating in practical exercises.

During January, February and March, the Belgrade Emergency Situations Section will conduct a training session for some 800 soldiers doing civil service.
