On the occasion of marking the anniversary – 50 years since the establishment of the Centre for Applied Mathematics and Electronics, the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic and the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Nenad Neric with associates have attended today the ceremony in the Central Military Club.

Congratulating the members of the Centre on the holiday and significant anniversary, the State Secretary Neric reminded of the historic importance of the use of cryptography in our country for military and diplomatic needs.

“During half a century of its existence, the Centre has successfully kept pace with modern world trends in cryptography and in the most difficult conditions it has kept finding solutions of a high quality, providing cryptographic protection of information transferred to the telecommunications system”, the State Secretary Neric stressed.

Addressing the members of the Centre, he said that their expertise and competence had contributed to high-quality and secure cryptographic protection of information for the needs of the Ministry of Defence and other state authorities, enabling them to run smoothly even in the most sensitive cases.

The Head of the Centre for Applied Mathematics and Electronics Colonel Dragan Trivic has reflected on the history of this institution, which was established on the 5th May 1967, emphasizing that in its 50-year-long existence and work the Centre has successfully carried out scientific and research tasks in cryptography, developing and verifying its cryptographic solutions.

“We are witnesses of the increasing and continuous development of the telecommunications and IT, and more and more jobs and activities are performed by electronic communications. Thus the danger threatening from the cyberspace is increased, setting more demanding requirements concerning protection of information. Contemporary cryptographic solutions are necessary for the telecommunications and information system to fulfil the set demands. The applied cryptographic solutions have to be developed on its own, despite complex theoretical and practical conditions and challenges because only its own solutions provide the required security”, Colonel Trivic pointed out.

Talking about the most important achievements in the previous period, as well as plans for the future, the Head of the Centre for Applied Mathematics and Electronics highlighted the significance of personnel in such specific sphere of work, emphasizing that the members of this Centre have demonstrated the required level of professionalism, responsibility and discipline in performing set tasks.
