Marking the 202nd anniversary of the Second Serbian Uprising



The 202nd anniversary of the day when, in 1815, the decision was made to raise the Second Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire has been marked today at the memorial complex “The Second Serbian Uprising” in Takovo.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia the ceremony was led by the State Secretary at the Ministry for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Dragan Popovic, who said that freedom had always been on the first place for Serbia. He emphasized that the Serbian peasant was clever and wisdom won 202 years ago, and today Serbia pursues the same policies like 202 years ago, wise and national ones, providing the secure future.
 
The Serbian Armed Forces delegation led by the Commander of the Training Command Lieutenant General Djokica Petrovic laid a wreath at the memorial complex “The Second Serbian Uprising”. Wreaths were laid by Mayor of Gornji Milanovac Dejan Kovacevic,
representatives of the Moravica District, representatives of twin municipalities and associations of citizens from Norway, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Slovenia and Romania, as well as the Association for Preserving the Tradition of the Serbian Liberation Wars until 1918.
 
The Serbian Armed Forces celebrate 23rd April as its holiday to mark the day when, on Palm Sunday in 1815, the decision was made to raise the Second Serbian Uprising.
