The Day of the Military Academy Observed
The Day of the Military Academy was marked in that high education military establishment, in the presence of the Minister of Defence, Zoran Đorđević, Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Ljubiša Diković, their closest associates, representatives of scientific and educational institutions, religious communities and church.
Pointing out that in the region of Western Balkans, the Military Academy enjoys the primacy in creating, defining and conducting process of education thus creating a modern military cadre, the Minister of Defence noted that the second lieutenants of the Serbian Armed Forces, who completed the Military Academy, were trained to efficiently respond to all security risks, both current and potential challenges that might jeopardise the prosperity of our people.
-By going through the process of military education, which is harmonised with the highest world standards for the education of officers, the Military Academy has managed to achieve the goal assigned to it. This goal could have never been reached without the overarching role that the University of Defence plays in the system of military education, and without constantly high level of interest of the candidates in the enrolment on military schools. This interest would never be possible if the Serbian Armed Forces had not represented an institution that enjoys the greatest confidence of the citizens of Serbia – underlined Minister Đorđević.Stressing Serbia’s resolve to be a guarantee of security in the region, along with an intensive collaboration with the neighbours and international community, the Minister of Defence said that our country had always been advocating a peace-loving resolution of conflicts, fully appreciating all political subjects and honouring the fundamental principles of international law.
-Among the values that the Military Academy, as an important military education institution, has defined as the values that should be honoured, the highest place is taken by honour, integrity and cooperation. The task of a real school is to arouse and develop interest in better understanding certain events, occurrences and processes. In this respect, the main goal of education is to create an environment in which carefully selected candidates would be adequately prepared to assume the responsibility over the destiny of the Serbian Armed Forces- the Minister of Defence, Zoran Đorđević explained.Greeting the guests, the Head of the Military Academy, Major General Goran Zeković underscored that the Academy represented a modern high education institution within the University of Defence, and a scientific institution with a renowned scientific and teaching cadre. In the previous year, two new doctoral programmes of study were accredited, as well as one programme for master studies and one undergraduate programme of study.
- The Military Academy represents a real educational and scientific treasure. We will especially work on further enhancement of the quality of the programmes, on honouring the choice of teaching staff and reducing the current 25 programmes of study to a measure that is acceptable and sustainable in terms of quality. Through its participation in programme ERASMUS PLUS, the Military Academy has become a part of the European educational and scientific agenda. Our researchers have already involved themselves in the programmes financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development – General Zeković said.On the occasion of the Day of the Military Academy, the most successful professors and cadets were presented commendations and awards, while the units and establishments of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, state institutions, companies and individuals with whom the Military Academy successfully cooperated in the previous year received scrolls of honour. The Plaque of the Military Academy for particularly significant and comprehensive cooperation promoted in the previous year was conferred to the Minister of Defence, Zoran Đorđević, Army Commander, Lieutenant General Milosav Simović and the Faculty of Engineering Science of the University in Kragujevac.
