The official opening ceremony for 3rd Winter World Military Games was held in the Ice Cube Centre on 24th February 2017. On that occasion the President of the Government of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, Minister of Defence, General of the Army Sergey Shoygu and the President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), Colonel Abdulhakeem Alshino addressed the participants of this competition and a great number of viewers. A day before, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin hosted a reception for the heads of delegations from the countries participating in the Games and for the Board of Directors of the International Military Sports Council on the occasion of observing the Defender of the Fatherland Day, a great national holiday of the Russian Federation.

Also, on the first day of the competition 10km female individual freestyle cross-country race was held which our soldier Anja Ilić finished in 14th place.

The Winter World Military Games are organised once every four years for the athletes in the armed forces of the CISM member states. After Aosta (Italian Republic) in 2010 and Annecy (French Republic) 2013, Sochi hosted this year’s Winter World Military Games. The initiative for the competition came from the International Military Sports Council, which is the largest sport organisation after the International Olympic Committee and the International University Sport Federation, and the organiser of the Games was the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.

The delegation of the Republic of Serbia was led by the Head of Delegation of the Republic of Serbia to CISM, Brigadier General Siniša Radović.

The achieved results are significant having in mind a fact that a dozen national teams included professional athletes who are on the list of the International Ski Federation (FIS), who are at the same time members of armed forces, as well as the fact that our national team appeared in rejuvenated composition, with majority of athletes without experience in international competitions.
