General Draganić Retiring from the Duty of Deputy Chief of General Staff




A military ceremony was held in the General Staff on the occasion of leaving the duty and retirement of the Deputy Chief of General Staffof the Serbian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General JovicaDraganić. The ceremony was attended by a delegate of the President of the Republic of Serbia,MiroslavLatinović, with associates, the Minister of Defence, ZoranĐorđević and the Chief of General Staff, General LjubišaDiković with the members of his Board, and the representatives of the organisational units of the General Staff.
 
After official reading of the Decree of the President of the Republic, TomislavNikolić discharging Ltc Gen JovicaDraganić from the duty of theDeputy Chief of General Staff, the present were addressed by the Chief of General Staff, General LjubišaDiković who spoke about his closed associate in well-chosen words.
 
Pointing out military and human virtues of the General Draganić, General Diković spoke about many years of dedicated, persevering and devoted work of his yesterday’s deputy on all the duties where he carried out responsible and important tasks for the wellbeing of the Serbian Armed Forces and the state.
 
- General Draganić did not spare himself. He put all his knowledge, physical and intellectual capabilities, and all of his ambition at the service of the people and the state he belongs to. For almost four decades, he has been discharging different duties giving all that he had. His devotion, authority, ambition, dedication to the work and his calling, as well as boundless care for people have remained the traits of the man, officer, General who is leaving his military service today and starts his deserved retirement. Strictness, honesty, wittiness and care about the units are the characteristics for which he will be remembered by his subordinates and loved by his colleagues from the General Staff, said, among other General Diković.
 
Thanking General Diković for the kind words and reminding him of many moments that they shared during three years of the joint professional work, General Draganić noted that the four past decades, spent in the uniform, represented a significant part of his life.
 
-General’s epaulettes and the honour which I was given to perform some of the highest, very responsible duties in our Armed Forces, are by no means only my credit and success. Those epaulettes and success are to a large measure the result of the effort and devotion of many generations of soldiers, civilians, NCOs and officers with whom I had the honour of working and cooperating in the last decades and to whom I extend my gratitude. My dear colleagues, I will no longer wear this uniform, but you still have many tasks, challenges and matches in front of you and I wish you to win them together for our Armed Forces and our Serbia- said Lieutenant Colonel JovicaDraganić.
 
At today's ceremony, the Minister of Defence ZoranĐorđević conferred an occasional gift to General Draganić as a token of gratitude for the contribution to development of the Serbian Armed Forces, while the Chief of General Staff, General LjubišaDiković handed him a gold plaque of the Serbian Armed Forces. The occasional gifts were given to General Draganić by the State Secretary NenadNerić and the members of the Board of the Chief of General Staff.
 
Lieutenant General JovicaDraganić was born on 31st January 1060 in Mali Šiljegovac near Kruševac. He completed Aviation and Technical Military High School, Aviation and Technical Military Academy, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, General Staff Course and National Defence School.
 
He started his military career in 1978 as an operator in the missile guiding battery. He was a squad and platoon Commander, Commander of Rocket and Rocket-technical Battalion and the Commander of the heroic 250th AD Rocket Brigade. He was appointed to staff duties in the Command of the Brigade and of AF and AD, after which he assumed the duty of the Head of Department for Training and Doctrine of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Director of Defence Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defence and Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces.
 
He was decorated by the Order of Knight’s Sword of the First Degree, Order of Merit in Defence and Security of the Second Degree, Gold Medal for Diligent Service, Medal of Military Merit, Military Commemorative Medals for Extraordinary Results in Military Service for the officers and for the participation in combat actions in 1999. During his career, Lieutenant General JovicaDraganićwas early promoted three times and awarded and commended on several occasions.
