Visit by UK Deputy Chief of Defence Staff



Lieutenant General Jovica Draganić, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, met today in Belgrade with the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom General Sir Gordon Messenger.

Generals Draganić and Messenger discussed the political and security situation in the region and beyond with emphasis on the fight against terrorism, migrant crisis and other modern security challenges, as well as the enhancement of the bilateral military cooperation, especially in the field of military education and training.

The two generals agreed that there is room for improving cooperation between the two armies, which has been on the rise in recent years. Training and advancement courses at different levels are areas of common interest, as well as preparation for the participation in peacekeeping operations, utilization of the facilities at the CBRN Training Centre, South base and the Peacekeeping Operations Centre of the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as training and advancement of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the centres and military educational institutions of the United Kingdom.

General Messenger will meet tomorrow with Minister of Defence Zoran Djordjević and Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff General Ljubiša Diković. During his visit to our country, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom will visit the Military Academy, where he will give a lecture, and will lay a wreath at the Commonwealth cemetery.
