Anniversary of death of Field Marshal Petar Bojovic



Field Marshal Petar Bojovic was the Serbian Field Marshal from World War I. He finished the high school in Belgrade and entered the Military Academy on 6th October 1875. He was promoted to artillery second lieutenant in 1880. As a young officer he gradually occupied posts according to the rank and commanded in peace. During World War I his 1st Army suffered huge losses at the Battle of Drina in 1914, when he was wounded. In January 1916 he was appointed the Chief of the Supreme Command. He returned to his position Commander of the 1st Army, which broke the enemy lines at the Thessaloniki Front and advanced deep into the occupied territory. He received the title of Field Marshal from Serbian Supreme Command on 26th September for his contribution during the war. He died in Belgrade on 20th January 1945.
