The Battle of Kolubara
The Battle of Kolubara lasted from 16th November until 15th December 1914. This battle has two phases: the defensive and the offensive one. During the first phase the Serbian Army was forced to withdraw behind Kolubara and Ljig, and then, at the end of November to the line to Varovnica, Kosmaj and Rudnik. Separating from the enemy for only three days, the Serbian Army rested and filled in to a certain extent.
According to the suggestion of General Misic, the Commander of the 1st Army, the decision about counteroffensive was made. By 5th December the resistance of the enemy on Suvobor and along the front line was broken and the chase of the 6th Austrian Army was undertaken. It was pushed across Sava to Srem until 12th December. At the same time, Serbian troops destroyed the 5th enemy army and threw it across Sava, so on 15th December, besides the captured, there were no enemy soldiers at the territory of Serbia. This battle represents a unique example in the war history because the army doomed to failure reorganized quickly, conducted counteroffensive and defeated the enemy, which grew the reputation of Serbia and its armed forces.
