The Veterans Day

On that day in 1912 the truce in the First Balkan War was signed between allies: the Kingdom of Serbia, Montenegro and Bulgaria on one side and the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) on the other side as defeated one. More than 400,000 fighters of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia became old warriors (modern term: veterans) whereas taking care of their needs was the responsibility of the Ministry of War in the Government of the Kingdom of Serbia, which regarded them as fighters of vital importance in the successive wars in which they took part. The choice of this date for the Veterans Day would provide the continuation with the veterans from 1912, when the Kingdom of Serbia as a modern state engaged around 12% of its population in the war and all material and financial reserves with the creation of the Balkan League with its neighbours. Taking care of veterans by giving them property in the southern part of the Kingdom of Serbia, the state and the Government showed how they can be in a certain manner paid tribute to for the participation in the defence of the country.
