Marking 70 years of existence of Electronic Warfare Units



Седамдесет година од формирања јединица за електронска дејстваWith a ceremony at the barracks “Radovan Medić” in Batajnica 70 years of electronic warfare service and 10 years since establishment of 224th Electronic Warfare Centre were marked. The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Zoran Đorđević, the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Serbia Milorad Simić, Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff General Ljubiša Diković with associates, former commanders and members of the unit, representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Serbian Orthodox Church, organizations cooperating with the Centre and other guests.

Addressing guests and members of the unit, the Commander of the Centre Colonel Zoran Nenadović stressed the significance of electronic warfare service, emphasizing that in 1999 during NATO bombing those units were among the most important targets of air strikes.

Седамдесет година од формирања јединица за електронска дејства“All members of this unit, both former and present ones, are proud of the results achieved in a 7 decades long history of service. While performing tasks we expressed professional commitment, good interpersonal relationship and patriotism. We responded timely to all potential crises and challenges, undertaking adequate steps necessary for military decision making at the highest level. Due to what we do in the field of preservation and improvement of operational capabilities of the Armed Forces, this unit can serve as a role model to others, and unselfish zeal and commitment to performing all tasks and preserving the tradition of Serbian Army will remain our symbols”, said Colonel Nenadović.

Седамдесет година од формирања јединица за електронска дејстваDue to extraordinary, exemplary, professional and high quality performance of all tasks in recent ten years, the President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić awarded 224th Electronic Warfare Centre Order of Merits for Defence and Security Level 3. Advisor to the President of the Republic of Serbia, Milorad Simić, presented the Commander of the unit with Order. Congratulating the members of the unit on anniversary, Advisor to President Nikolić among other things said: “The tasks set to electronic warfare units are more and more complex and become a great challenge, both in the sphere of equipping service with modern assets and systems and in training personnel. The Republic of Serbia will strive in accordance with its capabilities to further modernize Serbian Armed Forces, so that they can adequately respond to all contemporary threats and challenges. I am convinced of further strengthening of your operational capabilities and I believe that this deserved high medal of the President of the Republic and supreme commander of Serbian Armed Forces, which your unit received, will represent for all of you a stimulus for even better work and serve other units as an example to follow”.

After ceremonial defile and award recognition to the awarded members of the unit, the guests toured exhibited weaponry and systems used in the Electronic Warfare Centre and Memorial Room of the unit. The Commander of the unit Colonel Nenadović gave letters of gratitude and plaques to representatives of organizations the Electronic Warware Centre has recently collaborated.

On this day seven decades ago the first unit for radio-reconnaissance and electronic warfare was formed in Niš.
