Marking 98 years since the breakthrough of the Salonika Front

Several hundreds of gathered citizens, members of the Ministry of Defence, Serbian Armed Forces and police, civil servants from Serbia, Greece, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, and the Association of Combatants and Veterans, headed by the Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy, Aleksandar Vulin, paid tribute to the fallen soldiers by laying wreaths and playing the national anthems.

- Every nation has a place to admire, a place of pilgrimage where they come to worship in silence. Zeitenlik is such place of ours in the holy land of Greece. A hundred years passed, and even if another hundred years pass, it is short time to forget with whom we fought and with whom we shared the bread and the blood – Vulin said after the wreath laying ceremony.

According to him, Serbia is a country that has one wish:

- This is a wish we have dreamed about for a thousand years, and that is to give birth to a generation which will live and die without war. Only once in a thousand years, this is our prayer as we are standing among these unshakable lines. Eternal glory to them – Vulin said.

After paying tribute, a cultural and artistic programme followed, and it was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, General Consul of the Serbian Embassy in Thessalonica and Greek officials.

On the occasion of marking the anniversary of the breakthrough of Macedonian Front, a ceremony of laying wreaths and paying tribute at the allied memorial on Polykastro will be held tomorrow.

Every year, organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy, the ceremony of marking the anniversary of the Salonika Front is attended by students of the Military and the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies from Belgrade and Banja Luka, as well as representatives of the Association for Preserving the Traditions of the Serbian Liberation Wars.
