Meeting of the Minister of Defence and Ambassador of the United Kingdom



Today, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin met the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Sian MacLeod.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Vulin bid welcome to Ambassador MacLeod to Serbia and expressed his belief that her rich diplomatic career would additionally contribute to enhancement of bilateral relations and so far cooperation between the two countries, which had established their diplomatic relations back in 1837.

According to him, Serbia and United Kingdom share common history which is reflected in participation on the side of the victorious ones in both world wars and accordingly, they endeavour to share common values and interests as well.

Minister Vulin stressed that the establishment of so-called “Armed Forces of Kosovo” is absolutely unacceptable for the Republic of Serbia and that it represents a threat to the entire region and he stated that KFOR is the only guarantee of security in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija in conformity with Resolution 1244.

Ambassador of the United Kingdom expressed her satisfaction with bilateral defence cooperation which is according to her very developed, and comprehensive and she pointed out that there existed room for its further continuation and advancement. She thanked Minister Vulin for the invitation to attend the promotion of the youngest officers of the Serbian Armed Forces held in the previous weekend in Belgrade and commended the organisation of the ceremony.
