Commemoration of the 213th Anniversary of the Battle of Mišar

Today, a delegation of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath at the monument to Karađorđe and Heroes of Mišar, in a small place Mišar near Šabac, to commemorate the 213th anniversary of the Battle of Mišar.

The state ceremony was led by State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Zoran Antić, and wreaths were also laid by representatives of the town of Šabac, and associations and citizens oriented towards cherishing traditions of liberation wars in Serbia.

The Battle of Mišar, which took place on 13th August 1806, represents one of the most significant victories of the rebels against then armed forces of the Ottoman Empire. Led by War Lord Karađorđe and renowned rebellion leaders from areas of Šabac and Valjevo, the Serbs won the battle thus reinforcing the positions of the rebels and dramatically endangered the status of the Turks within Belgrade Pashalik.
