Interview of Defence Minister for the show “Dozvolite”

The Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic has announced new investment in the defence system and said there are indications that Serbian Government will allocate more money for such needs in 2017 in comparison with 2016.

In his interview for the show “Dozvolite”, Djordjevic said that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces had made a plan and there are several projects.

“The first one to be carried out is equipping the first 1,500 soldiers with the up-to-date equipment. After that we will equip another 1,500 soldiers”, the Defence Minister said adding that the investment is also planned in other branches of the Armed Forces.

“Besides MiGs which are expected to come, we will have the introduction of  “Lasta” plane and placement of the total composition of “Orao” plane in use”, Djordjevic emphasized.

He said that it is planned to introduce gun-howitzer “NORA” and “Lazar” fighting vehicle in the armament by the end of 2017 and to start the modernization of four types of armoured personnel carrier.

Talking about the greatest achievements in 2016, the Minister said that it was 6-month-long voluntary military service, which, as he stated, would increase training level of the reserve element.

Answering the question about failure and problems Djordjevic has pointed out that the Ministry of defence could have done more for sure.

Djordjevic has spoken about the work of trade unions. “When we look at the work of trade unions according to a definition, then it is very useful for the system while it is done within its organization”, the Defence Minister said adding that it is not good to have the protests of the military trade unions.

“I have heard plenty of smart suggestions at the meetings with numerous trade unions and in my opinion that is the manner to overcome problems”, Djordjevic said.

Besides 5% increase in salaries, the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces can expect numerous benefits when purchasing in some hypermarkets and as a result of trade unions’ suggestions the situation with uniform will improve.
