Commemoration of the 631st Anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo



Today, members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces participated in commemoration of the 631st anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo and Vidovdan, which took place in Kruševac.

The delegation of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, led by Acting Commander of Training Command Brigadier General Jelesije Radivojević, attended the state wreath lying and homage paying ceremony held at the Monument to Kosovo Heroes.

The state ceremony was led by the envoy of the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Minister for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Zoran Đorđević. Organiser of commemorative ceremony was the Committee of the Serbian Government responsible for cherishing traditions of liberation wars of Serbia in cooperation with the town of Kruševac.

Today, members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces also attended a divine episcopal service in the church Lazarica and they took part in the procession and bearing sarcophagus with the remains of Prince Lazar, and sanctification and foundation stone and charter laying for the construction of the church of Great Martyr Prince Lazar near barracks “Tsar Lazar” in Kruševac.
 
In the Kruševac barracks, members of the Command for Deployment of Rasina Brigade and 246th CBRN Battalion marked Vidovdan and celebrated Slava - Holy Martyr Prince Lazar and Holy Serbian Martyrs - Vidovdan.

Vidovdan, 28th June, is a state holiday which is observed in memory of the Battle of Kosovo fought on 28th June 1389 on Gazimestan.  In collective memory of the Serbian people, the Battle of Kosovo symbolises freedom, resistance to foreign aggressor, cherishing of patriotism, national being, chivalry and heroism.
