Construction of apartments for members of the security services in Sremska Mitrovica has begun

Deputy Prime Ministers of the Republic of Serbia, Minister of the Interior Nebojša Stefanović and Minister of Transport, Construction and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović, along with the Mayor of Sremska Mitrovica, Vladimir Sanader, laid the foundation stone for the construction of 190 apartments for members of the security services in Sremska Mitrovica today. State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Bojan Jocić also attended the ceremony.

With the laying of the foundation stone, the construction of about 15.000 square meters of living space began and will be made available to security structures, as well as to citizens who participated in war events in the past. The city has provided a location, and will also build the necessary infrastructure, access roads and arrange the public area.

Sremska Mitrovica is the sixth city in which apartments for members of the security services are being built, following Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac, Kraljevo and Vranje. The total value of construction of the planned 8.000 apartments is around EUR 300 million. The construction of apartments in Belgrade is expected soon, after which Sombor, Zrenjanin, Zaječar and Kruševac will follow.

- This day is very important for the members of the Sremska Mitrovica garrison of the Serbian Armed Forces. We have a lot of unresolved housing issues, and thus the construction of these apartments provides security for our families, so that we can focus fully on fulfilling our professional tasks – says Major Branislav Bojanić, Commander of the Division of Self-Propelled Multipurpose Missile Launchers at the Sremska Mitrovica Barracks.

At Kamenjar settlement, the construction of three buildings, i.e. groups of buildings, including 190 one-bedroom, one-and-a-half bedroom, two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bedroom, three-bedroom and three-and-a-half bedroom apartments are envisaged. According to the plan, construction works on the apartments will be completed in the following year and a half, and the first tenants will be able to move in.
