Awards for the best 2018 scientific achievements




A ceremony of presenting the annual awards of the Ministry of Defense for the best scientific research and doctoral work in the defense system, published over the previous yearwas held at the Central Military Club.

The ceremony was attended by State Secretary, Aleksandar Živković, Deputy Chief of General Staff, Major General Petar Cvetković with associates, representatives of scientific institutions of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, studentsat different levels of education and training and cadets of the Military Academy.

This year’s laureates, who received awards from State Secretary Aleksandar Živković were Aleksandar Kari from the Military Academy for the best scientific research project, and Boriša Jovanović, PhD from the Center for Applied Mathematics and Electronics of the Department for Telecommunications and IT of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces and Bojana Fidanovski, PhD from Military Technical Institute for Best Doctoral Dissertations.

Congratulating the award winners and greeting guests in the name of the Minister of Defense Alexander Vulin and his own, State Secretary Aleksandar Živković pointed out that the scientific-research activity in the defense system is integrated into the scientific-research system of Serbia and is one of the main drivers of development and strengthening of the defense system.

- Considering that science and innovation are a key factor of competitiveness and development, the focus of the scientific and research activities in the Ministry of Defense is directed towards improvement of the existing assets, procedures and weapon systems and military equipment, the prototype of which are the results of scientific research. Over the period from 2014 to 2018, on average, 11 innovations were done annually, which is about 10 percent more than in the previous period - said State Secretary Živkovic, adding that the Ministry of Defense paid special attention to scientific professionals who promote scientific-research activity and thus contribute to strengthening of the defense system.

Significant steps have been taken in the Ministry of Defense to improve and develop science, said Živković, emphasizing that the design of new weapons and military equipment and their introduction into production is a direct result of scientific research in the defense system. In 2018, 127 tasks in the field of basic, applied and developmental researchwere carried out, 89 verifications and final examinations were realized, and 18 assets were adopted. In eight projects funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, 25 researchers from the defense system were engaged, and a large number of researchers and scientists from the system participated in more than 130 different scientific and other conferences, events and fairs. We also affirmed ourselves as organizers and co-organizers of several scientific and trade events such as the International Fair of Weapons and Military Equipment “Partner” and the scientific symposium “SIMOPIS”, said State Secretary Aleksandar Živković.

The selection of the prize winner for this year was explained by Colonel AleksandarIlić, PhD, Head of the Department for Scientific and Research Activity, who stated that four research projects and six doctoral dissertations published last year were running for the annual award.

Aleksandar Kari, PhD from the Military Academy is the leader of the award-winning research project “Investigation of dynamic vehicle conduct under the influence of firing force in integrated weapons”. Major Boriša Jovanović, PhD from the Center for Applied Mathematics and Electronics of the Department for Telecommunications and IT of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces is the author of the doctoral dissertation “An effective mechanism of cryptographic synchronization in algorithms of selective encryption of multimedia systems of the new generation”, while Bojana Fidanovski, PhD from the Military Technological Institute is the author of the doctoral dissertation “Composite material based on bio-renewable unprotected resin and recycled polyethylene terephthalate”.

An exhibition of scientific works, projects and achievements of the Military Technical Institute, the Center for Applied Mathematics and Electronics of the Administration for Telecommunications and IT (J-6) of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, the Technical Testing Center and the Institute for Strategic Research was organized at the Central Military Club.
