Commencement of studies for the 6th class of Advanced Security and Defence Studies

The ceremony to mark the beginning of the training of students of the 6th class of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies has been held today in the amphitheatre of the Centre for Simulation and Distance Learning of the Military Academy.

The ceremony was attended by the Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic, the Serbian Armed Forces Deputy Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, the University of Defence, professors and lecturers, as well as students of the National Defence School.

Congratulating the new generation of students of the highest level of studies in our military educational system on the beginning of the training, Minister Djordjevic said that the Advanced Security and Defence Studies were established because they were necessary for the Republic of Serbia, its security and defence system.

“The number of students is limited and therefore this type of studies is prestigious. The organization of this level of training represents a specific, military educational response to the obligations derived from the National Security Strategy. Among other things, this Strategy is based on coordinated actions in foreign, economic, defence, internal security and social policy, as well as policies in other fields of social life. The structure of the new, your 6th class, exactly reflects the intention to respond to that request”, the Defence Minister stressed.

He emphasized that the task of education has always consisted of processes which enable an individual to “strengthen and acquire self-confidence which would make him/her a complete human, capable of stepping boldly to professional career development”.

“I wish you to be exactly like that after the end of these studies and to use the given opportunity to acquire top education to the maximum”, Minister Djordjevic said.
The Chief of the National Defence School Colonel Miroslav Talijan, PhD, said that the success of the 6th class of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies is guaranteed by the composition of its students including “predominantly distinguished officers and managers from the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, the General Secretariat of the President of the Republic of Serbia and three high state officials - the Minister of Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic, the Minister for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Aleksandar Vulin and the Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali”.

The Advanced Security and Defence Studies represent an organizational unit in the National Defence School as the highest level of career development of officers, senior officials of ministries and agencies of the Government and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. Among students there will be three foreign ones (an officer from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia).
