Minister Djordjevic at the summit in Warsaw

Delegation of the Ministry of Defence, headed by Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic, took part in the meeting in the Interoperability Platform format meeting held under the auspices of the NATO summit in Warsaw. The invitation of Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General, is a confirmation that the Government of Serbia enjoys the status of a stable and responsible partner within the program "Partnership for Peace", and that it is firmly committed to cooperation with all states and international organizations aimed at improving regional and global security.

The meeting was dedicated to the further implementation of the Partnership Interoperability Initiative. Minister Djordjevic in his speech stressed that the security environment today is very unstable, and the biggest victims are ordinary citizens and their right to a safe life. In relation to the current security risks and adequate political and strategic-military responses, the Government of the Republic of Serbia, led by Aleksandar Vucic, runs a serious and responsible policy. In this way, a constant interest in promoting regional stability and the preservation of peace and security is shown as a prerequisite for national and regional security. Cooperation in the field of security and defence, as one of the key functions of the state, involves the construction of common capabilities necessary to respond to threats such as terrorism and migration. The Republic of Serbia, in both cases, runs a responsible policy and develops necessary mechanisms to make its contribution to national security and the security of other states and peoples.

The meeting in Warsaw was attended by heads of states, governments, ministers of foreign affairs and defence from more than 60 countries as well as representatives of major international organizations.

On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Djordjevic had bilateral meetings with defence ministers of Poland – Antoni Macierewicz, Armenia – Seyran Ohanyan, Austria – Peter Doskozil, Montenegro – Milica Pejanovic Djurisic and Bulgaria – Nikolay Nenchev, Michael Carpenter, US deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia and Mohammed Al Falasi, the UAE Minister of State for Defence Affairs. Also during the summit, Minister Djordjevic met with senior officials from Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Moldova. In addition to consideration of further promoting bilateral cooperation, the current political and security situation in the region and the world was analysed in the talks.
