Minister of Defence congratulates the Veterans Day

To all military veterans I extend my sincere congratulations on the occasion of 4 December – Veterans Day.

This year, for the first time in the recent history of our army, as one of the military holidays at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the Veterans Day was established to commemorate the day of signing of the Armistice in the First Balkan War. Continuing the tradition of ancient warriors of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia, choosing this date for Veterans Day provided the continuity with veterans from the times in 1912, when the Kingdom of Serbia as a modern state engaged a part of its population in the war and all material and financial reserves with the creation of the Balkan League with its neighbours.

By determining this military holiday, we have a deeply seated need to save from oblivion all those who had done deeds to remember through the culture of remembrance of the stability of the Serbian people in the past wars and for our nation in the difficult times.

I congratulate you on your holiday, wishing and hoping that the suffering of the war and other forms of combat operations will never repeat, and that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, as one of the factors of the defence system will contribute to the preservation of peace in the country, throughout the region and beyond.
