Visiting Serbian peacekeeping forces in Cyprus and Lebanon



Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic will visit the members of the Armed Forces of Serbia deployed in multinational operations of the United Nations in Cyprus (UNFICYP) and in Lebanon (UNIFIL), on August 22-24.

During his visit to Cyprus, Minister Gasic will meet with Defence Minister of Cyprus Christoforos Fokaides, Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim, and Commander of the UNFICYP force Major General Kristin Lund. Gasic will also visit the members of the Armed Forces of Serbia at “Stefan Nemanja” military base.

During his visit to Lebanon, Minister Gasic will meet with Brigadier General Luciano Portolano, UNIFIL Force Commander and Head of Mission, Brigadier General Andrés Chapa Huidobro, Chief of the East Sector UNIFIL. He will also talk to the members of SAF deployed in this mission.

Currently, 46 members of SAF (37 infantry squad members) are deployed in the UNFICYR UN multinational operation in Cyprus.

In the UNIFIL operation in Lebanon, 143 members of SAF are deployed. In this multinational operation, the Armed Forces of Serbia participate with one infantry squad, which is the largest scope of participation in multinational operations.
