The first class of students of the Military Grammar School celebrated 40 years since graduation
On the last day of May, after exactly forty years, hallways, classrooms and auditoriums of the Military Grammar School in Belgrade, were filled with the murmur of those who had left it back in 1974, ready for new life challenges and victories.
Friendly smiles and hugs of old classmates of the first-generation students who have filled the desks of that secondary educational institution, woke up the already forgotten memories of another, as they say, better times, but also always the same pupils' suffering and problems. The large classroom hour, which marked four decades of graduation of first military high school students, was led by the retired General Peter Ćornakov, one of the three best students in the class.
Instead the bell ring for the beginning of the class, minute of silence was held to pay tribute to all those who have left their former friends forever, and those whose was vital mission was faith in the intellectual creation of the officers. First of all, they are, according to Cornakov, most responsible for the establishment and duration of the Military Grammar School, and they are General Viktor Bubanj, former Chief of General Staff and Dusan Vujic, first Director of the Military Grammar School.
- Getting used to living in a boarding school, accepting the rules and requirements of the school, thinking about the future, all of this has gained sense after meeting and talking with these two great personalities. Military High School, at that time, was the starting point for opening horizons, looking into the future, showing great vision of the world. They learned a lot and in a quality manner, and each student was able to express and develop their skills.
We learned to think and be critical of reality. The education system of the Military Grammar School was aimed to make each of us a future officer and an intellectual and give us a basis for education at the Military Academy, as well as the ability to build our own future – Cornakov said addressing his classmates but also many teachers who came to make sure that they directed their first pupils to the right way.
Most of them found their life way on the track laid by the Military Grammar School. Among those who sought their job in the civil sectors there are many doctors, lawyers, economists, engineers, business people, but what they all have in common are those four years at 2, Peter Tchaikovsky St. Therefore it was not difficult for them, even after forty years, to travel thousands of kilometres, to reconcile the irreconcilable boundaries caused by the wars of the nineties, only to gather together again.
Having visited the exhibition of photographs from their school days, on which they found themselves, their best friend, those who did not come, those who bring back nice memories, or those who were long forgotten, military high school students mingled with their class officers in the classroom lesson, and evoking memories of old times continued with a visit to the boarding facility, maybe a game of chess, followed by a gala dinner.
