Visit of the Director of NATO Standardization Agency
In the premises of the Defence Policy Sector, a meeting of the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and the Director of NATO Standardization Agency Dr Aksit Changir was held.
The visit was realised on the basis of the Ministry of Defence International Military Cooperation Plan for 2014, Individual Partnership and Cooperation Programme between Serbia and NATO for 2014, and the Invitation Letter of Miroslav Jovanovic, Assistant Minister for Defence Policy.
At the beginning of the meeting, Assistant Minister expressed gratitude for the previous support and assistance in the field of the defence standardization, as well as for the expert talks conducted at a technical level with the NATO Standardization Agency Mobile Team, which has been in an expert visit to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for the second time.
During the meeting, they highlighted the progress made in the process of achieving the Partnership Goals within the Serbia's participation in the Partnership for Peace Programme, which was realised at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and can be seen through the achievement of the required level of interoperability by attaining the required standards.
The main priorities of the reform of the defence system that can be reached through the Partnership Goals, in the forthcoming period, will primarily be aimed at maintaining and building the capability and capacity of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for performing their duties in accordance with their responsibilities, as well as the maintenance and development of operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces to carry out the assigned missions and tasks.
In support of the participation of the Republic of Serbia in NATO's Partnership for Peace Programme, the Serbian Armed Forces continues with the extension of operational capabilities to participate in building and maintaining peace in the region and the world, as well as support to civil authorities in combating security threats. In addition, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, in the forthcoming period, will continue with their active engagement in the mechanisms of the Partnership for Peace Programme, and the development of more active cooperation with NATO Standardization Agency to improve the field of defence standardization and interoperability in the context of the Partnership for Peace Programme.
