Assistant Minister for Defence Policy with Director of Slovenian Defence Policy Directorate
Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Miroslav Jovanovic has met today Primoz Savc, Director of the Defence Policy Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia, who leads the delegation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia in visit to the Republic of Serbia.
Assistant Minister Jovanovic presented to the interlocutors the current tasks of the Ministry of Defence and introduced them to the achieved level and priorities of defence reform in the forthcoming period.
He briefed them about the participation of the Republic of Serbia in the regional initiatives, concluding that by the admission to membership of the Southeast Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) Serbia became a full member of all regional initiatives developed in the area of Southeast Europe, with the exception of the US-Adriatic Charter (A-5) in which it is an observer.
In this sense, Jovanovic emphasized that the Republic of Serbia is making great efforts to promote regional cooperation and enhance its relations with the neighbouring countries, and pointed out that the activities carried out within the framework of regional initiatives strengthen overall security, and the dialogue and cooperation contribute to greater stability in the region of Southeast Europe.
In the talks with Savc, they agreed on the usefulness of the achieved level of regional cooperation and the need that all participating countries in the forthcoming period expose their concrete ideas and suggestions on opportunities for streamlining and synchronising activities of the regional initiatives.
It was pointed out that Serbia demonstrates a clear commitment to contribute to international security and peace by a significant contribution of the Serbian Armed Forces in multinational operations of the United Nations and the European Union across the world.
The defence cooperation is mutually assessed as very good, highlighting opportunities for further improvements in the field of military medicine and education as well as military and economic cooperation.
