Meeting with representatives of the UK Defence Academy and Transparency International



Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia continues the implementation of planned activities aimed at developing building integrity capabilities, fighting corruption and organized crime, within the Partnership for Peace Programme.

In Belgrade today there was a meeting between the delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and a representative of the United Kingdom Defence Academy, Jacqueline Davies, Senior Adviser Defence Engagement at UK Ministry of Defence and Alan Waldron, a representative of the Transparency International UK's Defence and Security Programme. On the British side, the meeting was also attended by Defence Attaché Colonel William English.

The delegation of the MoD led by Assistant Minister for Defence Policy, Miroslav Jovanovic, comprised representatives of the Strategic Planning Department, Department for International Military Cooperation, University of Defence, Military Academy, Planning and Development Department (J-5) and Joint Operations Command (JOC) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

They discussed the needs and possibilities for the United Kingdom Defence Academy to assist the professional development of cadre and development of educational programmes in the MoD and SAF in the field of building integrity and fighting corruption, through bilateral military cooperation and in partnership with Transparency International UK.

It has been proposed to deliver the first course in the field of building integrity intended for the SAF members who are to be sent to peacekeeping operations. As a medium-term goal, qualifying teaching staff and educational institutions of MoD and SAF has been considered for the development and implementation of basic and specialized education and training programs in this field. It was agreed to start with joint drafting of the multi-year cooperation plan. They have also coordinated the modality of joint activities within the second cycle of Government Defence Anticorruption Index research which is to be implemented during 2014 and discussed the possibilities for inclusion of the Transparency Serbia in the future process of cooperation.
