Meeting with the deputy chairman of the African Union Commission



State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic held talks today with the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission Erastus Mvencha. This is the first official visit of this organization , consisting of all the countries in the African continent to our country.

Djordjevic and Mvencha agreed that the relations of the Republic of Serbia and the African Union are good and positive development. The Republic of Serbia is ready to improve overall relations and cooperation with African countries, particularly in the area of defense and security.

During the talks special emphasis was given to military education cooperation , given that the 63 members of the armed forces of African countries underwent a training at military educational institutions of the Republic of Serbia.

Djordjevic expressed his gratitude for the principled stance of the African Union regarding the status of Kosovo and Metohija.

Secretary of State Djordjevic acquainted Mvencha with the engagement of the Army of Serbia in multinational operations of the United Nations and the European Union in Africa. There are 36 members of the Serbian Armed Forces deployed currently in three missions of the United Nations (Liberia , Ivory Coast and DR Congo ) and two missions of the European Union (Uganda and Somalia).
