Great School Lesson in Šumarice



By stage presentation of the poem "Let the mankind look at their watches" by the poet Slobodan Pavicevic today in the Memorial Park of "Šumarice" the traditional anti-war event "The Great School Lesson" has been held today in the presence of the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic.

"The Great School Lesson" besides the monument devoted to the executed pupils and teachers of the high school, which was attended by the government officials, public figures, foreign diplomats and citizens of Kragujevac and Serbia, each year sends the message to the world are sending that the crimes of the Second World War when the German fascist forces, in retaliation to the city, gunned down thousands of innocent civilians, must never repeat.

"The Great School Lesson" began by singing the anthem "God of Justice", and then the President Nikolic, Kragujevac Mayor Veroljub Stevanovic, delegation of the First Kragujevac High School, government representatives, representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, the ambassadors of Germany, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belarus, as well as representatives of the Embassy of Palestine, Russia and Slovakia, SUBNOR and other organizations laid wreaths at the mounds of the executed.

On 20th and 21st October 1941, in Kragujevac, German occupying forces executed several thousand civilians in retaliation, and this event is considered one of the most tragic that occurred in the territory of the Republic of Serbia in the Second World War.
