Master Sergeant Milovanovic in humanitarian mission

Even in retirement there is no rest for Master Sergeant Zoran Milovanovic, whose humane work and enthusiasm redound to the glory of our military. The fifty-one-year-old man from Uzice, former NCO in units of air surveillance, reporting, and guidance, today is a leader in a number of humanitarian campaigns and promoter of the famous campaign "Battle for Babies", thanks to which many hospitals have acquired modern equipment, and he received – an Order. And he received it as a long-term volunteer – in his heart and soul.

Peculiarity

Humanity is Zoran's peculiarity – constant desire to help someone. He did it also while he was engaged in the military profession – he completed Aeronautical Military High School in Rajlovac in 1981, and since then until 2005 he served in units of air surveillance, reporting, and guidance in Kačarevo, Jahorina, Zlatibor and the Command of the Uzice Corps, especially these virtues manifested in his retirement days (due to spinal surgery he got disability retirement).

Until now, for example, he donated blood voluntarily 48 times and he himself organized six actions, in which the precious liquid was donated by more than 150 people. He is the first resident of Uzice who bequeathed body parts at the MMA together with his wife Ana, in April 2007. Now he is the spokesperson of the bequeathing - "Prolong Life". In his organization, in a few months organs were bequeathed by 103 inhabitants of the town on Djetinja.

As early as in 1990, Zoran was promoted in the fundraiser campaign for little boy from Uzice Filip Maksimovic, his godson, to undergo eye surgery in Boston. It was worth it – for Philip the sky became blue, now he is beautiful and healthy boy. And the master sergeant acts in his profession, too: He is the founder and president of the Municipal Association of retired non-commissioned officers in Uzice. He animated a considerable number of colleagues to join the Association that is fighting for the acquired and unrealized rights of NCOs beneficiaries of military pensions.

However Milovanovic achieved the most valuable results in the last two years in the "Battle for Babies" campaign of "B92" Fund. Thanks to him Uzice became known for valuable donations for the purchase of incubators for the local hospital.

Volunteering

- With my wife Ana, I have three sons – Danilo, born in 1997, and twins Aleksa and Veljko, who were born at the time of the NATO bombing. All the three of them were born before the term, they spent their early days in old incubators of Neonatology Department of the General Hospital in Uzice. In order to contribute to the modernization of this department for purchasing new incubators, I volunteered in the "B92" Fund and got involved in a really nice "Battle for Babies" campaign. First, as a president of the Parents Council in the First Primary School in Uzice I designed and led the campaign of pupils and teachers, and later I managed to "raise" the whole city, including most of the Zlatibor District. I did it by everyday volunteer work, animating businessmen to contribute their donations for purchasing of modern incubators and other equipment to the Fund. I've organized more than 50 activities with participation of not only the industry, but also the schools, offices for the youth, soccer clubs – Zoran says.

So far, 135,000 euro was collected to provide equipment for the Department of Neonatology (neonatal ventilator, seven state-of-art incubators, and ten more devices). Milovanovic, is just finishing a donation to the maternity ward worth 18,000 euros. In this way, Uzice health service, when it comes to caring for babies, became the best equipped one in Serbia.

In addition, spreading good energy, Zoran animated his acquaintances from Kragujevac, Pirot, Despotovac Ivanjice, Batočina to get involved in "Battle for Babies" campaign. From September 2011, at the level of Serbia, funds were raised for the purchase of 207 new incubators and they have already been delivered to neonatal facilities.

The master sergeant received awards – at a ceremony at the House of the National Assembly he received from the "B92" Fund the medal of the "Battle for Babies" campaign, as the most prominent individual in the campaign. Chairman of the Management Board of the Fund, Veran Matic, awarding the first five incubators to the Uzice Hospital, pointed out that, due to its highest involvement Uzice deserves the title of "Hero City of Battle for Babies campaign".
