Assistant Minister Jovanovic meets with representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Security Studies



In the Defense Policy Sector Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Miroslav Jovanovic met with representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade, prof. Dr. Momcilo Milinovic and prof. dr Zeljko Ivanis respectively.

The meeting focused on analysis of the previous course of realization of the scientific research project "Cost-effective choice of new technologies and defence concepts through social change and the strategic orientation of Serbia in the 21st century, "and the ability of the Ministry of Defence to continue supporting the project.

The project is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science and is a form of civil-military cooperation, since its main bearers are civilian academic institutions, but the research team (with the approval of the Minister of Defence) since 2010, hired a number of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

It was concluded that the Sector for Defense Policy, as the main unit of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the planning of scientific activities, should serve as a reference point through which it is possible and necessary to continue coordination of involvement of individuals and institutions in the defense system in this important project.

Assistant Minister stressed the readiness of the Ministry of Defence to take part in any form of institutional support for research activities which can theoretically and practically improve the effectiveness of the defense system. In this context, it was proposed that a Memorandum of Understanding should be drafted which would define cooperation between the Ministry of Defence, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty for Security Studies.

It was agreed that the Directorate of Project Management of the Department of Budget and Finance MO, in collaboration with the project manager (Prof. Milinovic), the Strategic Planning Department and Military Academy jointly analyze the effectiveness of the present model of the project, identifying key achievements as well as the benefits of the defense system including the most significant difficulties encountered in previous work, as well as to develop dynamic proposal for further joint activities.

The meeting was attended by Chief of the Strategic Planning Department of the Defense Policy, Sector, Major General Prof. Mitar Kovac and Director of the Project Management Directorate, Department of Budget and Finance MOD, Dr. Proda Secerov.
