Cooperation of Srerbia with OPCW



The delegation of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons-OPCW, led by head of the department for the training of the OPCW Inspectorate Franc Ontal, was received by the Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic and pointed out that the visit of the OPCW delegation to MoD is a confirmation of successful cooperation between the Republic of Serbia to the OPCW in the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling, Use of and the Destruction of Chemical Weapons.

Cooperation with the OPCW in the fields of chemical weapons contributes significantly to the promotion of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces internationally, primarily of facilities and activities of the RCBD training center as a regional center for training personnel in the field of weapons of mass destruction, the Military Medical Academy and other resources which the Republic of Serbia has.

The Center for Training of RCBD Personnel in Krusevac in cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons continues the tradition which began in 2007, of training OCPW inspectors for highly toxic chemicals which will be carried out from 29 September-4 October in the Republic of Serbia.

Franz Ontal expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with Serbia and expressed gratitude for the assistance that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army is providing to the OPCW Inspectorate during the implementation of the training of the OPCW inspectors with highly toxic chemicals. In light of the current situation regarding the use of chemical weapons in Syria, the importance of practice and experience gained at the exercise "Investigation of Alleged Use of Chemical Weapons" which the OPCW Inspectorate in cooperation with RCBD training center and the Military Medical Academy was performed in the Republic of Serbia.

Since signing the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the Republic of Serbia has fulfilled key obligations under the Convention upon all Member States and adopted documents necessary for its immediate implementation, which resulted in a number of activities that the Ministry of Defence and the Army of Serbia in cooperation with the OPCW in the field of chemical weapons.
