Military cooperation with Libya
State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Nikolic met with Deputy Defense Minister of Libya in International Affairs and Training Attohami Ahmed Omar Abuzayan.
Abuzayan is heading a high-level delegation of the Ministry of Defense of Libya, which is paying an official visit to the Republic of Serbia with the aim of improving cooperation in defense with a focus on the military economy, military education and military medical cooperation.
Since March this year, this is the second official visit by a high delegation of the Ministry of Defense led by Libya's deputy defense ministers, suggesting the importance the Libyan side places on restoration and improvement of cooperation between the two countries.
During the talks with Deputy Defense Minister of Libya State Secreatry Nikolic said that the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, supported the participation of Serbian companies in Libya. The Serbian government attaches great importance to renew cooperation with the “new” Libya and the Department of Defense seeks to promote other industries thorough the initiated cooperation, whose involvement in the reconstruction of Libya was of mutual benefit.
The Ministry of Defense is interested in the restoration of all forms of defense cooperation with Libya, MO, and military education and military medical cooperation should not be behind military economic cooperation.
Secretary of State Nikolic pointed out the importance and necessity of signing the Agreement on Cooperation in the field of defense, which would create a legal basis for the implementation of all forms of defense cooperation in the future.
At the end of the meeting, Nikolic said that the Ministry of Defense, in accordance with available capacity, would strive to meet all the needs and demands of the Libyan side.
