State Secretary Nikolic receives Libyan Deputy Defence Minister

State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Nikolic, in his capacity as head of the Serbian delegation, met with Libyan Deputy Defence Minister Khalid Mohamed Alsharef.

Alsharef leads delegation of the Ministry of Defence of Libya, which is on an official visit to the Republic of Serbia, in order to renew and promote the defence cooperation between Libya and the Republic of Serbia. This is the first official visit of the newly appointed deputy defence minister of Libya abroad, which indicates the importance that the Libyan side attaches to restoring and enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

In his talks with the Libyan Deputy Defence Minister, State Secretary Nikolic stressed that the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia perceives the future cooperation as cooperation between the two defence ministries and the two armies through realizing all forms of development (education, courses, training ) and the military economic cooperation, which we expect to be significantly improved in two ways: through the joint work in military infrastructure projects and restoring the capacities of the Libyan Armed Forces.

Nikolic pointed out that cooperation between the two ministries and the two militaries through military education and military medical cooperation should not lag behind the military economic one. In this sense, the Libyan side was offered capacities of the Military Academy and the Military Medical Academy, of the Military Technical Institute and the Medical Faculty of the MMA, as well as the signing of a Defence Cooperation Agreement that would create a legal basis for the implementation of all forms of defence cooperation.

In the forthcoming period, the Ministry of Defence will seek to promote, through the initiated cooperation in the field of defence, other businesses, whose involvement in the reconstruction of Libya was of mutual benefit.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed that the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and two peoples provide an adequate basis for the restoration and enhancement of cooperation not only in defence but also in other areas of common interest.
