Bilateral defence consultations with Austria

Head of the Department for International Military Cooperation Brigadier General Ljubomir Nikolic, within holding of regular bilateral defence consultations, met in Vienna with the Head of Department for International Cooperation of the Federal Ministry of Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria Brigadier General Peter Forhofer.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation achieved in the field of defence and the tendency of further qualitative improvement. This is corroborated by the fact that in 2013 it has been planned that the highest representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia visit Austria and to continue regular bilateral military and security consultations. It was stated that regular bilateral defence consultations confirm high level of understanding between the two countries.

Cooperation in the field of defence is mainly carried out in the field of training and professional development, preparation for participation in multinational operations, military history, logistics, CBRN and military medicine.

General Nikolic pointed out that the defence cooperation is intensive. The Republic of Serbia has the largest number of activities with the Republic of Austria, among the non-NATO countries.

General Forhofer pointed out that the Republic of Serbia is one of the most important and most reliable partners of the Republic of Austria. He stressed the importance that Austria attaches to cooperation in the Common European Security and Defence Policy and Regional Cooperation.

After bilateral consultations, brigadier generals Nikolic and Forhofer signed the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan between the two defence ministries for 2013.
