Cooperation with Norway



Head of the International Military Cooperation Brigadier General Ljubomir Nikolic met with the Assistant Chief of the Department for Security Policy of the Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of Norway Nina Borgen Bakevol.

During the talks, both sides agreed that the progress and intensity of cooperation is increasing, as seen in recent joint engagement of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Norway in the peacekeeping mission in Chad.

Brigadier General Nikolic thanked the Kingdom of Norway for having provided direct grants to finance priority projects of the Government of Serbia for many years now. He said that the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia regards Norway a trusted partner, therefore sees this visit as an incentive for both ministries to be actively involved in developing and deepening the existing cooperation.

Borgen Bakevol stressed that the Norwegian side was interested in intensifying defense cooperation, with the aim to raise the level of operational capabilities of the armed forces of the two countries. She confirmed that the Kingdom of Norway would remain principled when it comes to supporting Serbia to join the European Union.

Bakevol welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Defence for the introduction of the project approach and said that the Kingdom of Norway was very eager to actively work with Serbia to achieve some project ideas that the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia has presented.

During the meeting the Plan for Bilateral Military Cooperation 2013 was agreed upon and signed. The focal areas of cooperation with the Kingdom of Norway are the field of military medicine, military reform in higher education, energy efficiency, exchange of experience and joint engagement in multinational operations, as well as distance learning
