Defence University



The University of Defence was established by the Decision on the Establishment of the University of Defence in Belgrade ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia", No. 14/11, 90/15 and 77/21). As an independent institution of higher education, it offers three levels of academic studies in several fields. It is organizationally and functionally linked to the Minister of Defence. The University of Defence is headed by the Rector of the University of Defence.

The competencies of the University of Defence include the following: provision of higher education through integrated academic studies and the first, second and third-level academic studies in several fields including medical sciences, technological sciences, social sciences and humanities; planning, organizing and carrying out pedagogical and educational work; conducting basic, applied and developmental research aimed at improving and modernizing teaching in the defence system; designing study programs; drafting normative acts and selecting teachers and teaching associates; collecting, protecting and storing registers and archives at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces; issuing public documents.
 
The Rector’s Office is responsible for: planning, coordination, monitoring, improving the teaching process in military education institutions; planning, coordination, monitoring and improving research work; promoting inter-university cooperation and international military cooperation with foreign universities; cooperation with the organizational units of the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff and military scientific institutions in the country with the aim of improving educational and scientific work; integrating the functions of all higher education institutions which are part of the University of Defence; general affairs and military police work performed at the University of Defence.

The following organizational units are organizationally and functionally linked to the Rector of the University of Defence:
 
1) Military Academy,
2) Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy,
3) School of National Defence “Field Marshal Radomir Putnik” and
4) Strategic Research Institute.



The Military Academy is a higher education institution with a legal entity status, which runs accredited study programs in technological sciences, social sciences and humanities.
 
The following organizational units are organizationally and functionally linked to the Commandant of the Military Academy:

1. Military High School and
2. Vocational Military School - “1300 Corporals“  

The Military High School plans, organizes and carries out educational and pedagogical work, works to improve and develop quality lessons and provide good working conditions during the course of schooling.  

The Vocational Military School - “1300 Corporals“ plans, organizes and provides high school education. It aims to provide students with knowledge and skills, psychological and physical characteristics and moral values needed for the profession of a non-commissioned officer.  

The Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy is an educational and scientific institution, offering accredited study programs in medical sciences and medical specialty training programs.  

The School of National Defence "Field Marshal Radomir Putnik" organizes and delivers career development programs for professional officers, designs, implements and evaluates training programs and cooperates with the organizational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, educational and scientific institutions at home and abroad in accordance with its jurisdiction and responsibilities.

The Strategic Research Institute is an institution that performs research work in the fields of security and defence, organization and the modelling of basic principles of economic, sociological, psychological and other aspects of the functioning of the defence system and military organization and history.

The Military Archive is organizationally and functionally linked to the director of the Strategic Research Institute.

The Military Archive collects, protects and stores registers and archives at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
