The Day of Reserve Military Officers



The central ceremony on the occasion of the Day of Association of the Reserve Military Officers Organization was held on 29 and 30 September in Smederevo. Within the programme the wreaths were laid at the Monument to the Fallen Soldiers of 1912-1918 in the park "Three Heroes" and the War Memorial for those killed in the NATO aggression, the technical display of weapons and equipment of the Serbian Armed Forces was organised, as well as working in a solemn session of the Assembly of Serbian Association of the Reserve Military Officers Organization.

Besides the host, Smederevo Mayor Jasna Avramovic and Deputy Mayor Brance Stojanovic, the ceremony at the Cultural Centre was attended by the representative of the Minister of Defence, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Jovan Mijakovi?, Chief of Department for Defence Obligations Colonel Dragosav Lackovi?, Head of Department for the tradition, standards and veterans Colonel Sladjan Ristic and President of the Association of the Reserve Military Officers Djordje Malenkovic.

Addressing the reserve military officers, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Mijakovi? pointed out, among other things, that modern trends impose different way of organizing reserve military officers and implementation of programming tasks as compared to the previous years and that our strategic foreign policy goal is the Army that will have both active and passive reserves.

- Bearing in mind that you are active participants in the development of new training programmes, you had the opportunity to make sure that the current training of professional members of the Armed Forces takes on new directions and has a different character than the previous one – Mijakovi? said stressing the importance of training of all structures of the defence system, and the obligation of rejuvenation of the membership of this association.

The Day of Association of the Reserve Military Officers Organization, 15 September, is celebrated to commemorate the breakthrough on the Salonika front in 1918 and the date when the founding congress of the Association of Reserve Military Officers and Soldiers was held in 1919. The first then elected president was Voivode Stepa Stepanovic.
