Delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia in Lebanon



Delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, led by Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Command Maj. Gen. Goran Radovanovic, traveled to Lebanon, in a four day visit to multinational operation of the United Nations UNIFIL.

In addition to general Radovanovic, Colonels Jelesije Radivojevic, Nikola Zulovic and Branko Milovanovic were also in our delegation.

The aim of the visit talks with Head of the Mission and commander of the armed forces Major General Paolo Sero and East Sector Commander Brigadier General Julio Islo about developments in the UNIFIL mission, the dynamics of MoD and SAF mission and the possibilities of expanding our participation in the peacekeeping mission.

The delegation will visit, as planned, five staff officers of the Army of Serbia, who are involved in this multinational operation in the Spanish contingent.

United Nations peacekeeping operation in the Republic of Lebanon UNIFIL was established by Security Council Resolution 425 of the United Nations on 19 March 1978 and the Security Council resolution No. 426 of the United Nations of 19 March 1978. In accordance with Security Council Resolution 2004 (2011) mandate was extended to 31 August 2012.

Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces have been part of UNFIL since December 2010 with five members of the Serbian Army engaged as staff officers in the Spanish contingent. So far SAF has engaged 15 staff officers, members of the MOD and the Army of Serbia.
