Educating members of analytical group for implementation of the National Action Plan
In the House of Guards in Topcider a three-day training seminar for members of analytical group in the Republic of Serbia for the implementation of the National Action Plan began today. Besides the representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the seminar was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Interior, BIA, Customs and members of UN agency on gender equality and empowerment (UN Women).
The Head of the Strategic Planning Major General Bozidar Forca in his opening remarks, thanked the colleagues who participated in drafting the National Action Plan, and representatives of organizations for assisting in the project.
- I hope that this three-day meeting to exchange experiences will be beneficial to everyone, said General Forca, recalling that we have the resources but we need capacity, primarily education.
The Head of Analytical Group in the Department of Defense Policy Biljana Stojkovic explained that the analytical group has a key role in implementing the National Action Plan because they monitor evaluate and improve its implementation. She also noted that the Ministry of Defense had decided that evaluating the progress of the implementation of this document should be done twice a year upon which the data is forwarded to the Minister of Defence’s staff meeting.
Representative of the UN agency for gender equality and empower women Zorica Skakun said that the seminar has a duty to help participants to prepare their annual plans.
- Gender equality must be the only formal equality which is on paper, but must exist in reality. This is equality and equal opportunities for women and men - said representative of the UN specifically praised the political will to use this document succeeds in Serbia.
Resolution 1325 United Nations Security Council - Women, Peace and Security was unanimously adopted on 31 October 2000, stressing the consequences of the bloody conflict on women and girls and the important role of women in peace building and post-conflict recovery of the country.
The Government of Serbia, on 24 June 2010, formed the multi-departmental working group for drafting the National Action Plan of the Republic of Serbia for the implementation of this resolution, in order to establish standards and mechanisms to protect women and girls during and after armed conflicts, and to provide them with equality in participation, progress and decision making in the security sector.
