Minister Stefanović meets with the Mayor of Novi Sad, Mr. Vučević

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, talked today to the Mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, about the project to build the “Majurska Ada” barracks, which would involve the exchange of property between the City of Novi Sad and the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
In that way, the River Flotilla, the First Brigade and other units of the Serbian Armed Forces located in the City of Novi Sad would be stationed in one base, that would be one of the most modern bases in this part of Europe, and the defence system would hand over to the City of Novi Sad the barracks and locations where units are either currently located or have been declared unpromising and offered for sale.

In the meeting, Stefanović and Vučević also discussed the construction of a civil-military hospital on the territory of Novi Sad, the first such hospital in Serbia, where both military and civilian doctors would work and that would be open for all citizens.

Speaking about the cooperation between the defence system and this local self-government so far, the two men agreed, among other things, that conversion of the Novi Sad Fair into a temporary Covid hospital in early December last year carried out by the military and the local self-government in just 24 hours is an example of good cooperation. They noted that the Novi Sad Military Hospital had been admitting Covid patients again since the beginning of November and that 319 patients had been taken care of.
