Serbian-French Commemoration
The delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by Brigadier General Miroljub Čupić, laid wreaths at the French Military Cemetery in Zaječar and at the Monument to the Timok soldiers who died in the Balkan Wars and the First World War, paying tribute to the French and Moroccan soldiers and officers who died in the First World War and the Timok soldiers in the Balkan Wars and the First World War.
At today’s national Serbian-French commemoration, wreaths were also laid by State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Zoran Antić, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of the Serbian Liberation Wars, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of France, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, the City of Zaječar and associations committed to nurturing the traditions of the Serbian Liberation Wars.The French Military Cemetery in Zaječar is the second largest French military memorial in Serbia after the French Military Cemetery in Belgrade.
The Monument to the Timok soldiers who died in the First World War in Zaječar is dedicated to the fighters who lost their lives in the final military operations for the liberation of the country in 1918, when members of the Serbian Army, together with their French allies, waged fierce fights against Austro-Hungarian, German and Bulgarian troops.
