Serbian Armed Forces are securing border crossings, migrant centres and hospitals




Based on the decision to introduce a state of emergency on the entire territory of Serbia, the Serbian Armed Forces have been additionally engaged as of today, as the President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić announced at the last night's press conference. Under the new measures, the Serbian Armed Forces are bringing under control all border crossings, securing and controlling all the reception and asylum centres, and securing all hospitals.

The engagement of members of the Serbian Armed Forces is regulated by the decisions and orders of the Minister of Defence, Aleksandar Vulin, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović, within their jurisdiction in providing support to civilian authorities and the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

In order to prevent the uncontrolled movement of persons who may be carriers of the virus and stop them from arbitrarily leaving the asylum and reception centres, the Serbian Armed Forces, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, will intensify surveillance, access and exit control and external security of these facilities.

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces are deployed to asylum centres in Sjenica, Tutin, Bogovađa, Banja Koviljača and Krnjača, and to reception centres in Preševo, Bujanovac, Vranje, Bosilegrad, Pirot, Obrenovac, Adaševci, Šid, Principovac, Sombor, Kikinda and Subotica.

The Serbian Armed forces have taken control of the reception and asylum centres so that members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs can devote their resources to controlling the implementation of measures prescribed by the Government of the Republic of Serbia banning and restricting movement.

According to the previously prescribed measures, the Serbian Armed Forces are engaged in securing and controlling public facilities, hospitals where the potentially infected with COVID-19 are being monitored and the sick are being treated. They are also engaged at Belgrade and Niš airports and bus stations in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Niš, Novi Sad and Pančevo.

 At the border crossings, members of the Serbian Armed Forces assist the competent state authorities in controlling the border crossing.

The Serbian Armed Forces have taken the necessary measures to prepare CBRN units for the decontamination of terrain and facilities in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

While carrying out all their tasks, the Serbian Armed Forces are taking all necessary protective measures against COVID-19 disease in accordance with the recommendations of the competent services.

 The Serbian Armed Forces are ready to carry out all the tasks they receive in order to protect the state and citizens during the state emergency in the Republic of Serbia.
