At a meeting held at the General Secretariat Office of the President of the Republic, and at which Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin was also present, President Vučić emphasized the great importance Serbia attaches to its firm friendship with Cyprus, based on understanding, trust and solidarity.

President Vučić thanked Cyprus for its assistance in protecting Serbia’s state and national interests, notably by not recognizing Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence, and expressed Serbia’s firm stance on supporting the territorial integrity of Cyprus.

Minister Angelides reiterated Cyprus’s strong support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity regarding Kosovo and Metohija.

The two interlocutors agreed that good political relations are the basis for diverse cooperation, including the area of defense, for which there is mutual interest.
Minister Angelides said his country appreciates the involvement of members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the UN Mission in Cyprus.

President Vučić asked Minister Angelides to convey his greetings and sincere thanks to President of Cyprus Anastasiades for his strong support for Serbia’s European integration, which he openly expresses to his colleagues in the European Union.

President Vučić also stressed the expectation that a third joint session of the two countries’ governments would be held soon in order to continue discussions on concrete joint projects and other forms of cooperation.

Minister Angelides briefed President Vučić on the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. President Vučić said that Serbia expects all activities in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus to be carried out in accordance with the International Law and with the consent of the Cypriot authorities, in order to avoid deterioration in the security situation in the region.
