Minister Vulin: Sports in the Military include a set of values that make a soldier better and different

Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin, who is visiting the Russian Federaion at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Army General Sergey Shoygu, visited the CSKA Sports Society. In the company of Colonel Artem Valeryevich Gromov, Chief of CSKA, he visited the gyms for the preparation and competitions of one of the Russian most successful sports clubs.

Minister Vulin stated that CSKA is a very well known club in Serbia and that many support that club.

„The mention of CSKA in Serbia is synonymous to sports, to football, to basketball, hockey, but above all it is synonymous of the Russian Armed Forces. It was a great and genuine pleasure for me to have the opportunity to see the place where so many legendary champions were trained and readied themselves. You can see that there is a lot of investment and that is really good, the Armed Forces have to and should invest in sports. There is not a sport in the military that is just about physical preparation. Military sports include a set of values that render any Armed Force valuable and important. Sports include the set of values that make a soldier better and different. Team spirit, willingness to sacrifice for the team, to fight to the end, never to accept surrender – these are the values that are nurtured and upheld in the Armed Forces, the values due to which the Armed Forces exist and endure.  And sports are just a manner of achieving those values.”

Minister Vulin and Colonel Gromov agreed that the traditional cooperation of the Serbian and Russian sportsmen should be further improved.

Colonel Gromov thanked Minister Vulin for the warm and cordial reception of Russian athletes at the Athletic Cadet Competition held in Belgrade and invited the Serbian Cadet team to enter the Third Cadet World Games to be held at St Petersburg next year. The invitation was also extended to the pupils of the Military High School and Military Vocational School for the competition to be held in Moscow.

Minister Vulin suggested for the futsal teams of Generals of Serbia and Veterans of the Serbian Armed Forces to be hosts to their counterparts from the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

CSKA is one of the most successful sports clubs in Russia. 56 different sports are traditionally practiced and developed within the club. The company includes 170 sports facilities across Russia that train military personnel and civilians, and they are especially proud of their sports schools for children.
