Meeting between State Secretary Živković and Ambassador of Suriname

State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, AleksandarŽivković, met today with Gardelito Gordon Ruben Hew A Kee, the Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname on a non-resident basis.

State Secretary Živković expressed his satisfaction with another visit of the representatives of Suriname to Belgrade and recalled the open and friendly talks that the representatives of that Republic had with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, over the past two years.

Živković thanked for the decision of the Government of the Republic of Suriname regarding the withdrawal of the recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo and emphasized that he is convinced that Suriname will retain a principled position over the coming period, or in situations where possible subsequent attempts of the so-called Kosovo to join international organizations may occur.

He emphasized that in the forthcoming period, on the basis of common attitudes of Serbia and Suriname with relation to issues of national interest for both sides, the possibilities for establishing comprehensive cooperation between our peoples and states is present, including the field of defense. He went on to emphasize that the priority in the coming period should be the signing of defense agreements.

Ambassador Kee firmly believes that Serbia and Suriname have common interests and that the geographical distance should not be an obstacle in establishing cooperation in all areas of common interest. He expressed his interest for cooperation in military-military and military-educational areas and voiced hope that after the signing of the agreement on defense cooperation, the two sides would start successful cooperation.
